did you know that canon have just announced 3 more ELPHs? One is a 5Megapixel 3x optical zoom - might be the camera you're looking for?

http://www.livingroom.org.au/photolog/archives/newdigitalcameras_showcase.php

That is an entry I did last week on the latest cameras being release...all Canons latest are listed there....

Benjy.

With 20 cameras coming out, you know something better will be out as soon as your check clears.

According to FedEx, my camera is due in on Thursday... which means there'll be something better on Friday.

Ah well. At least I got through the post CES reports without seeing anything that made me scream "THAT'S what I want!"

Ah, I'm in a very similar situation: I want a small camera to take snowboarding, to take videos. I've used a friend's S230 for this task in the past, and it works great...

But I want the S400's 3x optical zoom, but it only takes movies at 320x240. So there's the S230 or the SD100, both of which take movies at 640x480, but they both each only have 2x optical zoom.

Hopefully canon releases an Elph with 640x480 recording with 3x optical zoom before snowboarding season ends... Alternatively, I'm on the verge of buying an SD100 and selling it as soon as something more closely meeting my needs comes out.

I just replaced my S300 with an S400, and I love it. It's right on the border of being too small to easily hold steady.

I ruled out the SD10 because it didn't have an optical zoom, and the S50 because it was significantly larger and heavier than the S400. (I compared them at Best Buy.) Also, some reviews I read indicated that the S400 took better pictures than the S50, even though it had the lower resolution.
