Seeing Triple
Wednesday, May 21st, 2003 @ 10:45 pm | iPod
This is slightly odd: when I browse my iPod, certain albums are showing up multiple times. For instance, my iPod currently thinks I have three copies of The Strokes‘ Is This It. Both iTunes and PodWorks see only a single copy of the tracks in question, but when I browse either by album or by artist, there are three copies of Is This It. Is this a common occurence on iPods or is my iPod just… special?

Are you sure you don’t just have slight variations on the album or artist name? Do you see multiple copies when you use the “Browse” in iTunes?

If I Browser by Album, there are three entries for Is This It.
If I browser by Artist, there’s one entry for The Strokes. Selecting this shows three entries for Is This It.
If I browse by song, I only see one entry for each of the tracks I have from this album.
I do have several tracks with the same name that, when browsing by Song, look like duplicates. However, it looks like they’re all just songs of the same name from different albums. None of The Strokes’ songs I have fall into this category, though.

the genre might differ for some of the songs, which would cause the bands to show up more than once.. hope that helps

This keeps happening to me too.
I think it’s because you might have slightly different album names entered (say a trailing space on one of the tracks) and this confuses things.
Hard to explain, but i’ve fixed the problem a few times by tidying the artist/album names.
