Molasses

Following a link from Joshua.com, I found out about Boston’s Molasses Disaster of 1919. I’ve lived in Massachusetts for most of my life and never heard about this. Not the way I’d pick to go.

There are several articles linked to on the Molasses Disaster Page. I read the Yankee Magazine article and did a double take when I saw my name in the text. That was definitely freaky.

There was a similar disaster involving beer in London:

Well, at least they died happy in London…

Seriously, at least with beer there’s a snowball’s change in hell you could swim. If you get sucked under molasses, I can’t imagine you’ll ever get out.

I’m still kinda surprised they never taught us about this in school. It seems like the kind of things that would at least get young kids attention while coverring local history.
