Mount Saint Carl

In case any Red Sox fans think Dan Duquette a complete moron as a General Manager, he did manage to rid of Carl Everett… after trading for Everett, incorrectly giving Everett a long term contract, and watching Everett completely undermind Jimy Williams… alright, so Dan Duquette was a complete moron as General Manager.

Let’s just say I was less than shocked to read that Carl Everett went off on yet another reporter, John Gonzalez of the Dallas Observer. It would seem Crazy Carl’s found a replacement for Gordon Edes and his Curly-Haired Boyfriend (sorry, the Boston Globe doesn’t seem to have a Gordon Edes page).

This interview raises two questions. First, what’s the over/under on Carl throwing a punch at Alex Rodriguez? Second, can we get John to interview Terry Glenn?

Oh, and if you think that Carl might be focusing his energy and anger on getting into playing shape, think again. According to Peter Gammons, “Carl Everett is bigger than the state of Rhode Island…” (it’s about 2/3 of the way through the article).

In my opinion, getting rid of Carl Everett was the third-best trade Duquette ever made, and a much better trade than aquiring Everett from Houston.

  1. Pedro Martinez for Carl Pavano and Tony Armas, Jr. — Pavano has already moved on from Montreal and Armas is just now making an impact.
  2. Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek for Heathcliff Slocumb — um, has anybody seen Heathcliff lately?
  3. Darren Oliver for Carl Everett — and Oliver didn’t even make it through one season in Boston.
