AirPort’s Amazing, as Long as it’s Working

Michael Tsai:

Like Lee says, John Gruber’s AirPort story probably shouldn’t have been funny, but it was. He also includes a link to Screenplays for You.

Personally, I found John Gruber’s tale much more ironic than funny, considering I was reading after failing miserably in an attempt to use AirPort (via a Linksys base station) while visiting some friends. While I’ve come to expect AirPort to just work, I’m usually not too shocked when I have problems connecting to a new network… except I lived in that house 8 months ago — same laptop, same base station, completely different results. Ah, the joys of technology.

To be fair, it sounds like I was having a different problem than Gruber. I was getting an AirPort signal (full stength, as a matter of fact), but just not getting an IP address. There was no security on the base station (wouldn’t have worked well in the particular environment) and nobody else had any trouble. Being tied to hub seemed so 2001.
